Current measurement campaigns by the National Research Council of Italy underscore the outstanding performance of our precipitation devices. Both the Thies CLIMA Laser Precipitation Monitor (LPM)and the 3D Stereo Disdrometer deliver excellent measurement results, especially in rain, snow, and complex mixed phases. Particular mention is made of the superior detection of snow and ice particles by the 3D Stereo Disdrometer thanks to integrated image analysis.
